EMOTE is an immersive museum where visitors can connect with their own emotions through a series of sensory exhibits connected to all five senses. Visitors travel down into the Earth as they explore the depths of deeper emotions while coming back up for lighter emotions. Upon consuming the holistic experience of the museum, visitors will be enlightened by the involvement of human emotion and gain a better understanding of themselves, as well as the psychology and complexity of human emotions.

With this project you have an immersive experience that allows you to feel and learn about emotions in a safe environment. For lighter emotions, we have built structures above ground- and for deeper emotions, we have slightly submerged spaces to allow a more intimate discovery. All of these emotions are important to who we are, and although this was designed for children to understand the fundamentals of emotions; This museum can be enjoyed by all ages.

The design process for this was really to understand how each emotion could tie into each other. We had to understand the emotion ourselves before we could build a museum for people to interact with. We also knew that we had to be mindful of how we educated our intended audience about these emotions so that children didn’t feel overwhelmed when being immersed. We learned early on that we couldn’t sugarcoat these “deeper” emotions, but it would be unfair to clump them together; so we made a plan to soften the impact of these deep emotions with lighter ones so as not to traumatize.
